Discussion background: Trade barriers in various forms are often attendant in daily dealings by traders. Success in identifying and addressing these concerns depends on several essential factors. For example, at the domestic level, on the part of the local industry, a general awareness of the nature, consequences as well as the substantive and procedural aspects of addressing trade issues is crucial. On the part of the government, having an established and effective mechanism, including sufficient human resource to systematically provide information to its domestic industries and to deal with these trade concerns are ideal if not indispensable. At the same time, the importance of efficient and effective communication and collaboration between the government and the relevant industry cannot be overemphasized. This session will highlight examples of mechanisms through which private stakeholders are informed and are able to raise trade concerns to the relevant government agency.
